There’s still plenty of time to participate in our summer reading program. (See the details of the program here.) We’ve had so much fun with everyone during the activities we’ve put on so far, and we can’t wait for you to join us at the remaining events on our list (full schedule of events below).
Scavenger Hunt
Join us on July 13th at 10:00 AM to learn about biodiversity and participate in a nature scavenger hunt. This program is best for grades K-4, but a self-directed scavenger hunt will also be available for older kids and teens.
Petting Zoo
On July 18th, visit the library between 2:00 and 6:00 and meet the animals! Goats, pot-bellied pigs, calves, bunnies, chickens, and more will be there!
Bonus Program – Amish in Wisconsin
Join Larry Scheckel on July 19th at 5:00 PM as he discusses the history of Amish in our area.
The Old Order Amish came from Ohio and arrived in southern Monroe County and northern Vernon County starting in 1966. They have grown to 300 families with a population of over 3,000. Hear about their unique way of life: courting, marriage, baptisms, weddings, funerals, schools, dress, German language, the Ordnung (set of rules for life), farm life, Amish manufacturing, auctions sales, horse and buggy transportation, community life, Church services, medical care, shunning, music, Amish newspapers, Rumspringa, and more. The Amish thrive, yet they avoid electricity, cars, modern appliances, and tractors in the field. This PowerPoint presentation goes behind the scenes to view the rich Amish culture.
Community Block Party
This is an event for everyone—even if you didn’t participate in summer reading, come and celebrate the summer with us! We’ll be at the lower shelter of Norwalk Park on July 27th starting at Noon. This is a potluck event, so bring a dish to pass (or you can sign up for an item on our sign-up list here).
We’ll have many games, and prizes will be given to those who participated in our summer reading program.
There are adult and kid prizes for participating, including a Blackstone griddle for adults. If you want to participate and get in an entry to win, stop in and see us at the library!
